Packaging Regulations

Applies to any business (or group) that handles more than 50 tonnes of packaging per year and has a turnover of £2m or more.

The regulations apply the principle of producer responsibility to ensure recovery or recycling of packaging materials after use.

Organisations who produce, import, fill or sell packaging or packaged products should check annually whether they pass the two thresholds. Obligated printers need to join a compliance scheme or register with the Environment Agency and demonstrate annually that the appropriate amount of packaging (the obligation) has been recovered or recycled.
