SCA Recycling Caldicot Branch Profile
Location
SCA Recycling has 8 branches in the UK. One of them is based in Caldicot, which is a
small town in South Wales about 4 miles from Chepstow. The branch is located
on the banks of the river Severn and within easy reach of the M4 & M5 motorways,
making it ideally placed to carry out recovered fibre collections from a wide reaching
area covering South Wales and the South West. Collection vehicles travel West to Swansea
and beyond, North to Hereford & Gloucestershire, South as far as Cornwall and East across
to Swindon, bringing recovered paper back to the branch which covers the largest
geographical operating area of any of the SCA Recycling depots.

Branch Manager
Mark Pengelly joined Caldicot as the Branch Manager in April this year,
having previously managed the SCA Recycling branch at Basingstoke. Mark is keen to
continue the training and personal development of staff at the branch and he is actively

Employees & Operation
A 48 hour split shift system is in place for many of the 27 staff which includes,
office staff team leaders, factory operatives, and LGV drivers. The drivers are trained
to the highest of standards and externally assessed every year and the latest ‘driver
management vehicle systems’ are used to assist team leaders manage their fleet of vehicles
efficiently. In the factory, multi skilled operatives are trained to operate a range of
up to date paper handling equipment, processing around 1,500 tonnes of recovered paper and
board products a week from collections made 365 days a year.
Equipment
The site’s multi lift vehicles and trailers are subject to rigorous servicing schedules &
safety checks and are replaced every 5 years. The mobile plant equipment is replaced every
3 years. br>
SCA Recycling has a wealth of expertise in paper sales and service and can find answers to
the most challenging problems. Customers are advised on the best design and suitability of
equipment, with the aim to provide long term and cost effective solutions. The installation
of air extraction systems and compaction equipment can be project managed to ensure
installations are problem free and on time. Our paper handling experience has provided
perfect solutions for many of our existing customers, not just at Caldicot but country wide.

Site Activity
In total, the Caldicot branch handles some 70,000 tonnes a year, providing collections
from newspaper and web offset printers, newspapers and magazine wholesalers, cardboard and
food packaging companies, super markets and local authorities.
Health and Safety
Health and Safety and quality assurance is a priority to all SCA Recycling branches and to
our customers. We operate an independently monitored Quality System, ISO9002, and in 2007
we achieved the highly accredited BS 18001:2007 OHSAS Occupational Health and Safety
Management System giving our customers peace of mind and confidence when obtaining advice
& services from us.
